What does Thread Count refer to?
Thread Count refers to the number of threads per square inch of fabric. This is used to help determine the quality of the sheet. Quality sheeting commonly starts at 180 threads per square inch, or 180 thread count. The higher the thread count, the softer the feel of the sheet will be and the more pill resistant it will be. “Pill” refers to small balls or “fuzzies” of fiber that develop with use or wear on the fabric.
What is a Duvet Comforter Cover?
A duvet cover is bedding that is made to go over an existing comforter, like a pillowcase. You take the comforter of your choice, put it inside the duvet cover, and use either a button, zipper, or tie closure to secure the comforter inside the duvet cover. Duvet covers are sized just like any other bedding, king or queen size for example. For this reason, you will need to know the size of the comforter that you intend to put your duvet cover on. It is best to make sure that the comforter is no more that 2 inches larger or smaller that the duvet cover, to insure the best possible fit.
Some prefer to use duvets in the place of the full traditional bedding set; consisting of a sheet, blankets or quilts, and a comforter. Because the duvet cover creates layers all on its own, it can provide the same amount of coverage and warmth as the traditional bedding layers. However, many still prefer to use their duvet cover as an addition to traditional bedding. This may also depend on the material and fill of the duvet cover you select.
Duvet comforter covers are great and easy ways to change the look of your bedroom. We have many unique styles that are made out of several different materials. The cleaning and care instructions may vary between the duvet covers we offer. You should always refer to the care label before cleaning your duvet cover.
How do I put on a duvet cover?
-
Make sure that you have the correct size duvet cover for your comforter.
-
Turn duvet cover inside out.
-
Reach back down into the inside out duvet cover and find the corners.
-
While keeping your hands in the corners hold the duvet cover and pick up the top two corners of your comforter.
-
While still holding onto the comforter, flip the duvet cover over your comforter.
-
Shake the duvet cover down over the comforter, similar to how you might shimmy a pillowcase over a pillow.
-
Fasten the bottom of your duvet cover. Some will have a zipper and some will have buttons or ties.
-
To insure that the comforter's ends are reaching the ends of the duvet cover, pick your closed duvet and comforter up in the center, like you are about to fold it in half, and then lightly shake it out a little.
-
Finally, Spread your duvet cover over your bed as you would any other comforter or blanket.
TIP: TIP: If you are still a little unsure of the process, we suggest giving these steps a time or two of practice using a pillow and pillow case. After a couple of times, you should be all set to put on your new duvet cover and transform the look of your bedroom into something new and beautiful!
What is the difference between your bedding sets and a bedding ensemble?
The easiest and most cost effective way to complete your bedding set is usually by purchasing a comforter set or a bedding ensemble. You can also complete your new bedding set by purchasing individual pieces. This option may cost a little more, but it allows you to mix and match bedding pieces to create your own look.
Comforter sets will include:
- Overstuffed comforters that are larger than standard sizes.
-
Pillow sham(s) feature the same detailed sewing and fine fabrics as the comforter face.
-
Bed skirts designed to coordinate with the entire bed to bring the whole look together. Most feature 14 inch drops for new tallermattresses.
- Some also feature bonus decorative pillows.
Bed ensembles will also include:
A bed ensemble (also known as a "Bed in A Bag") includes the sheets while a comforter set does not contain the sheets.
How should I determine what size bedding will fit my mattress best?
To insure the best fit with any of our bedding, you should measure your mattress before deciding which size to purchase. Some mattresses are made thicker than others, so there is a variance on mattress thickness within each size. The thickness of your mattress will affect the amount of overhang that bedding covers will have. If you want to leave more material to hang over the side of the mattress, you may want to purchase a bedding size that is actually larger than your mattress size. For example, several people prefer buying king size bed coverings for queen size mattresses to allow for more material to tuck under or to let hang over the mattress. Although we still recommend you measure your own mattress to get the most accurate fitting guide, we have included a quick reference guide to mattress sizes here. However, this is does not guarantee an exact fit.
